The Ashdodites

    The Ashdodites were the inhabitants of the city of Ashdod, which sits near the Mediterranean coast between Joppa/Jaffa and Gaza.  It was one of the five chief Philistine cities and was the seat of the fish god, Dagon.  The name means "Stronghold".  In the New Testament it was called "Azotus".
