Edom    

    The name means 'Red" and was a name for Esau, whose descendants lived in the land of Edom. It is also called Idumea and was formerly called the land of Seir. It extended from the Wadi Zered at the southeast part of the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqabah at the northern part of the Red Sea.


Gn 25:30
Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am famished.” Therefore his name was called Edom.

Gn 32:3
Jacob sent messengers in front of him to Esau, his brother, to the land of Seir, the field of Edom.

1 Now this is the history of the generations of Esau (that is, Edom).
8 Esau lived in the hill country of Seir. Esau is Edom.
16 chief Korah, chief Gatam, chief Amalek: these are the chiefs who came of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Adah.

21 Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. These are the chiefs who came of the Horites, the children of Seir in the land of Edom.
31 These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom, before any king reigned over the children of Israel.
32 Bela, the son of Beor, reigned in Edom. The name of his city was Dinhabah.
43 chief Magdiel, and chief Iram. These are the chiefs of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession. This is Esau, the father of the Edomites.

Ex 15:15
Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed.
    Trembling takes hold of the mighty men of Moab.
All the inhabitants of Canaan are melted away.

Nm 20:14,18,20,21,23
14 Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: “Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the travail that has happened to us:
18 Edom said to him, “You shall not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against you.”
20 He said, “You shall not pass through.” Edom came out against him with many people, and with a strong hand.
21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border, so Israel turned away from him.
23 Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying,

Nm 21:4
They traveled from Mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.

Nm 24:18
Edom shall be a possession.
    Seir, his enemies, also shall be a possession,
while Israel does valiantly.

Nm 33:37
They traveled from Kadesh, and encamped in Mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom.

then your south quarter shall be from the wilderness of Zin along by the side of Edom, and your south border shall be from the end of the Salt Sea eastward;

1 The lot for the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families was to the border of Edom, even to the wilderness of Zin southward, at the uttermost part of the south.

“Yahweh, when you went forth out of Seir,
    when you marched out of the field of Edom,
the earth trembled, the sky also dropped.
    Yes, the clouds dropped water.

Jdg 11:17,18
17 then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, ‘Please let me pass through your land;’ but the king of Edom didn’t listen. In the same way, he sent to the king of Moab; but he would not: and Israel abode in Kadesh.
18 Then they went through the wilderness, and went around the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and they encamped on the other side of the Arnon; but they didn’t come within the border of Moab, for the Arnon was the border of Moab.

Is 11:14

Ezk 25:12,13,14
12 Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Because Edom has dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended, and revenged himself on them;
13 therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh, I will stretch out my hand on Edom, and will cut off man and animal from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; even to Dedan shall they fall by the sword.
14 I will lay my vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel; and they shall do in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath; and they shall know my vengeance, says the Lord Yahweh.

Ezk 32:29
There is Edom, her kings and all her princes, who in their might are laid with those who are slain by the sword: they shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with those who go down to the pit.

Ezk 35:15
As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do to you: you shall be desolate, Mount Seir, and all Edom, even all of it; and they shall know that I am Yahweh.

Ezk 36:5
therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the nations, and against all Edom, that have appointed my land to themselves for a possession with the joy of all their heart, with despite of soul, to cast it out for a prey.

Dn 11:41
He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall be delivered out of his hand: Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

Jl 3:19
Egypt will be a desolation,
    and Edom will be a desolate wilderness,

because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime;

that they may possess the remnant of Edom, and all the nations who are called by my name,” says Yahweh who does this.

Ob 1:1,8
1 The vision of Obadiah. This is what the Lord Yahweh says about Edom. We have heard news from Yahweh, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, “Arise, and let’s rise up against her in battle.
8 “Won’t I in that day,” says Yahweh, “destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mountain of Esau?

Whereas Edom says, “We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places;” thus says Yahweh of Armies, “They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them ‘The Wicked Land,’ even the people against whom Yahweh shows wrath forever.”
